A FRIENDLY PLACE TO PLAY
Terms of play
Updated 13 October 2026
Welcome to the games.
The Lingo Games offers English language challenges, country teams and private school tournaments. The service is operated as The Lingo Games. Contact hello@onlineenglishspeakingclub.com or use Contact the Office for questions.
These rules describe participation in the current service. Important changes will be announced on the site. Our privacy notice explains how account and game information is used.
Your account and team
Use an email address you control, choose an appropriate public nickname and represent your country honestly. Keep private sign-in links to yourself. Choose the English division that reflects your ability. Division changes requested in My account take effect when the next published tournament starts; they do not move current or completed results.
The competition is for English learners. The current public country eligibility list excludes the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. Our Union Flag character hosts the games and does not compete. Private school-room countries are separate from public eligibility.
Play fair and know the rules
A ranked run begins after the countdown, lasts up to ninety seconds and ends at the first mistake or when time runs out. Correct answers earn ten points each. Event places compare correct-answer count, then the shortest server-recorded time to the last correct answer. Exact ties share competition places.
Your best result in each event contributes once to the tournament’s team total. Improvements replace that result; repeated attempts do not repeatedly add the same points. Individual event standings compare players within their division. Country points combine all divisions.
Progress badges celebrate a run. Official gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded for the top three event/division places after an approved official tournament closes. Practice and classroom games do not award public tournament points or Legends honours. Published tournament dates and the rules shown before play apply; unpublished editions are not opened by a countdown alone.
Answer for yourself. Do not automate play, submit fabricated results, exploit faults or use another person’s account. Report errors rather than taking advantage of them. Office management may correct or remove invalid results and place an account under investigation. A restricted member can submit a private appeal from their account review page.
A welcoming Village
Keep nicknames and posts respectful. Do not harass others, post hateful or explicit material, spam, impersonate someone or share private information. You are responsible for what you submit and should have permission to share it. Reports go privately to the Office. Posts may be hidden or discussions locked to protect the community.
School tournaments
Teachers manage their private rooms, admission, event order and settings. Use pupil names only where needed and follow your school’s arrangements for permission and supervision. Classroom results stay separate from public country standings.
The teacher chooses elimination at the first mistake or continuing until time runs out before an event starts, with the same setting for that event’s participants. Classroom gold, silver and bronze give three, two and one medal points respectively. Final ties compare gold count, then silver count, and exact ties share a place.
Sponsorship and availability
Game sponsorship is currently requested and reviewed by the Office. Sending a request does not take payment or reserve a confirmed booking. The advertised offer is £60 for sixty UK calendar days across the matching Summer and Winter advert slot. A booking’s approved dates and placement should be confirmed before payment is arranged.
We aim to keep the games available, but maintenance and connection problems can interrupt a run. Contact the Office if a result appears wrong. These games are for learning and friendly competition; they do not provide a certified English qualification.
Leaving the games
You can download player records and delete your account in My account. Deletion is permanent. Your name, email, posts and current contributions are removed. Completed tournament results and medals remain as “Former competitor”, without changing other players’ recorded places. Teacher accounts and sponsorship enquiries are separate; contact the Office for help with those records.
